Break The Cycle: A Conversation About the Rise of Anti-APIA Racist Violence
March 17 @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
We’re approaching the one-year mark since the country went into lockdown due to COVID-19. The impact has been devastating to people around the world. The socioeconomic implications will be felt for many years to come. However, a more insidious side of the pandemic has been the recklessness of far-right extremists, including elected leaders, attempting to scapegoat the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) community. Hateful, bigoted rhetoric and attempts to racialize the virus with terms such as “the China virus” or “Wuhan flu” have led to a dramatic increase in attacks on APIAs since the pandemic started a year ago.
Legislators in Congress have introduced measures to combat hate crimes and ensure the safety and security of residents. Activists and policy experts have been on the ground lifting up the stories of APIAs who have been directly impacted by these attacks.
Join us next week on March 17th for Break the Cycle: A Conversation About the Rise of Anti-APIA Racist Violence, a discussion with NOW leaders, activists, experts and community members to learn from their experiences, how we can support efforts and legislation to address this issue, and actions we can all take to help stop the rise of anti-APIA racist violence.
