Do We Gotta Serve? Women and the Draft
July 21, 2021 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Libby Frank has been a National Organization for Women (NOW) member since 1993 and an anti-war activist longer than that. Those two threads of her life will come together in our July 21 NOW chapter meeting, when Libby discusses the pros and cons of the Selective Service System, and explores the current constitutional challenge now that all combat positions have been open to women.
She has also proposed a resolution to the National Organization for Women asking the organization to encourage the U.S. Congress to support the Selective Service Repeal Act of 2021 — H.R.2509 and S.1139, which would end mandatory Selective Service registration in the United States. This would give all people the right to choose for themselves whether they want to voluntarily serve in the military or not.
For anyone who is eligible for the draft, or has spouses, friends, children or grandchildren who are eligible, this is vital information for you and the future of this country.
