The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight To Win The Vote, with Elaine Weiss
September 26 @ 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Elaine Weiss, author of The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight To Win The Vote, will lead us through one of the greatest battles in history — the fight to gain the right to vote for women in the United States — in this fascinating event co-sponsored by McHenry County Citizens for Choice, Toby’s Fund, McHenry NOW, North-Northwest NOW, and others.
It’s a remarkable 72-year history culminating on August 18, 1920, in Nashville, Tennessee, when the last of 36 States accomplished the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Writing in the New Yorker last year, in a fascinating article reviewing the history of the suffrage movement and the books which chronicled it, Casey Cap described the book as “thrilling and suspenseful.”
Ms. Weiss is an award-winning journalist and writer. Her magazine feature writing has been recognized with prizes from the Society of Professional Journalists, and her by-line has appeared in The Atlantic, Harper’s, New York Times, Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, as well as reports and documentaries for National Public Radio and Voice of America. She has been a frequent correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor.
It’s a FREE online event via Zoom, but registration is required.
